Shelter Me by Juliette Fay
rating: 5 of 5 stars
What a incredible book this was. You meet and fall in love with the characters and how each one has their own issues as they try to help the recent widow. This book brought me to tears at times and then had me smiling a few minutes later.
To have the love of your life die, in any way, is a fear of a lot of women. What would I do? How would I act? How could I go on living? Could I fall in love again? All those questions goes through your mind as you read this book. And the author has fabulously written a book that is realistic yet charming.
I had wanted to read this book but I had to admit at times it was a hard read. I found myself wanting to hurry up and finish it so I can move on to the next book on my list. Yet now that it is done I find myself a bit empty. These characters came to life for me and now they are gone. This book is definitely worth reading and I’m glad I was given this gift on my birthday. I will be following the author, Juliette Fay, and I look forward to her next book.

What Happens In Paris by Nancy Robards Thompson
rating: 4 of 5 stars
I just finished this book with a smile on my face. It was a quick read and definitely worth picking up and reading. I have a passion and love for Paris so of course the title was what grabbed my attention.
There were times the book was a bit cheesy but honestly there were not many moments of that. In fact I enjoyed it because these moments and reactions were pretty real to life, at least how I’ve would had reacted. Another reason I enjoyed this book was because it wasn’t predictable. And I find myself wanting the same experience when I visit Paris.
I already have the next few books on my ‘to read’ list of this same author because I really did enjoy her style and honesty of writing.

I know I already posted once today but I just couldn’t keep this in!
When I was growing up my mom and I used to read books together. I was into the Nancy Drew and the 3 Investigators books. My mom and I would swap them and keep getting more.
Then one day someone introduced me to the Mary Higgins Clark book ‘Pretend You Don’t See Her’ and I fell in love with the Novel. Before this point I would only read the smaller 150 page books. Now I read a 320 page novel! Wow. It only took me 2 days to read it and I was completly obsorbed into it. I loved that book, in fact I still have it and plan on always keeping it!
This book introduced me to a new world of stories, more mature and exciting stories! I still loved the mysteries, and I went thorugh all of Mary Higgins Clark books first and just kept going. I would start a book after dinner and be closing it up around 3am. I was reading 3-5 books a week and I loved it! Who cared that I had to get up in a couple hours! I just couldn’t put the thing down!
Then time passes and I started learning about responsibility. lol I started learning there were consequences with staying up past 1am reading a book! So I started cutting back my book reading then I stopped. I’m not sure why I stopped all together but I remember making the comment that I couldn’t read because I can’t stop myself!
I still kept a lot of my books but then I started getting the more refrence type books. About my gardening and photography and I still cherish those! I will gather them all together and pick up one book to read about a flower then grab the next book and see what that one says. But I forgot how great novels were.
I have a wonderful friend that loves reading and has gotten me back into the book world. She introduced me to some great websites as GoodReads.com and PaperBackSwap.com I’ve been going through these websites the past week or so and have fallen head over heels in love with books again. I have gotten a ‘to read’ list that is probably a mile long and I keep adding to it! I know now I need to put other things first before I can pick up a book but I also know that I can put it down and read it the next day.
I’m so excited to start reading again and I just wanted to tell everyone that!

Do you have books piled on your bookshelf you don’t know what to do with? I know I do… and I’ve been trying to figure out the best way to get rid of them. Some of my books deserve to go to good homes to someone that actually wants them. But how do I ensure this? Well my best friend just found an AWESOME site that allows just this.
Its called PaperBookSwap.com and its the best thing since sliced bread… though I don’t mind slicing my own bread. :) Basically you are able to put books you don’t want online and then pick out books that you do want and have them shipped to you. The only thing you pay for is to ship one of your books to someone that wants it!
For example, you have a book that someone wants and they request it. You pay about 2.50 to ship it to him and then you get a credit. This credit can now be used to have book that YOU want shipped to you.
If you want to keep it you can or you can put it back up when you’re done with it! This website is absolutely awesome and I highly recommend it. They make it really easy to navigate and they make it real easy for you ship the books. I have been playing with this site all weekend and I’ve already “sold” 7 books and have 5 being shipped to me. And you don’t even have to wait for someone to request one of your books, after you post your first 10 books you get two free credits!! Also if you want to purchase more credits they are available at 3.50 a credit. And thats a really good price if you think about it… considering most of the books I buy are about $20 each, not including shipping!
If you do decide to sign up make sure you tell them that RainNotebook sent you! If you do I get a credit and I would love to have another book! :)
Hope you have as much fun as I’ve been having!

So last week I talked about the new book I discovered called French Women Don’t Get Fat. Today I just got the book and I am VERY excited to get started with reading it. I can’t wait to learn more on how I can eat better. Well after last week’s blog I decided to start in advance the whole “50% solution”. Where you eat only half of whats on your plate and if you are still hungry then you eat half of whats left and so on.
I have practiced this on all my meals and have found it pretty easy. Granted there were a few times that I wanted to gorge myself… but that was at the beginning of it. Now that I’ve gone a week it has gotten way easier.
Just the other day I got some Chinese food take out and got whatever I wanted… then I ate just a 1/4 of it and was full. So I put it away! I was so excited and proud of myself. It has been much easier then I thought it would be.
And going back to my last post about drinking Black coffee has been happening too! I slowly am weaning myself off of all the sugar and cream I put in my coffee. Now I ‘m off of the cream and am enjoying just half of the sugar that I used to have… soon I won’t be adding ANY sugar to my coffee.
Even looking back at my calorie intake it has dropped from 2500 (or more) calories a day to about 1700 calories and I’m not even really trying THAT hard. I’m not hungry, or thinking this diet is “SO HARD”. Instead I’m actually surprised that all I’ve consumed in calories has been that little. Guess cutting your portions in half really do add up.
So here is a toot of the horn, a pat on my back and all of the ways I can say Yay!
